Dr. Khalifa Stanford has been an educator with Miami-Dade County Public Schools for two decades and has served as a professor at Miami-Dade College for the past thirteen years. In addition to teaching, Dr. Stanford has been a United Teachers of Dade Executive Board Member for the past six years and has served as a UTD delegate. She is also an Alternate Building Steward at her school site. She earned a B.A. Degree from Bethune-Cookman University and a Doctorate Degree in Education from Nova Southeastern University. She was trained by the College Board to implement and attract minority students to AP and Honors courses and conducted a study with the U.S. Department of Education on implementing vocabulary instruction. She was awarded by Governor Scott the Excellence in Education Award and was honored by the Miami-Dade County Commissioners in 2018. Also, Dr. Stanford was a finalist for Social Studies Teacher of the Year for Miami Dade County Public Schools for the 2017-2018 School Year. This school year Dr. Stanford was one of the educators from around the state to participate in the Leadership Florida Class sponsored by the Florida Department of Education. Dr. Stanford was nominated for the African American Achievers Award in the field of education. She was a finalist for the United Way Outstanding Human Services Professional Award. Dr. Stanford was also selected for the 2015 internship with the Florida Education Association. She was also chosen for the McDonald’s Teach for the Soul Award for two consecutive years and was one of the educators from across the nation selected to participate in the 2016 ABOTA National Teacher Law School Program. She also participated in the C-SPAN Educator’s Conference in 2017 and in 2013 participated in the Florida Humanities Council Summer Institute. Dr. Stanford has also mentored new teachers for the Teach for America Program. She continues to fight for public education and believes that education is the great equalizer.
