The purpose of education is to enable students to become successful in their lives. Education is a very important aspect of my life. All students have the capacity to learn and experience a proper education, but learning is a lifelong endeavor. Thus, teachers have a most important job, that of passing on what has happened in history and instilling a sense of social responsibility in each student. Educators are in the business of coaching students on how to acquire useful information and develop skills that are transferrable to their future undertakings. While today’s generation is more likely to be acquainted with digital technologies that make information readily available and more accessible, students are faced with information overloads from different media and sources. From my perspective, I see the role of an educator as guiding students in navigating across this sea of information and allowing them to uncover their strengths and talents in themselves. An educator’s time spent with students is fairly constrained to their four to five years in college; therefore, we should focus on teaching students how to self-regulate – setting their own academic goals, developing strategies to teach them, and reflecting on their academic performance. This goal may be achieved by the integration of digital technology that offers possibilities for individualized learning.
My Philosophy of education is that every student can learn. Thus, it is a teacher’s job to discover the most effective use of classroom time to assist every student with the learning process. Moreover, my goal in the classroom is to create a safe learning environment. As we continue to realize that students have different needs in their education, technological integration allows educators to understand their students and create a space for a connected learning ecology.
Technology has given instructors several new tools to use in the instructional design process. To be effective, teaching with technology should ignite students’ motivation to self-regulate by challenging them to think about what they are learning. Using social learning tools (i.e. online social networks), students are enabled to gather knowledge from experts and professional organizations in a networked learning system. Students become active learners by using new technologies to solve problems effectively.
God set each of us on a journey in this world for a purpose. My purpose is to teach infants, young children, adults, and elders to help them grow, so they too can fulfill their journey in this world. Learners need to be loved, heard, and cherished. Students deserve a high-quality education that challenges them to acquire new knowledge and skills, test their accustomed ideas, and achieve competitive excellence through interactive learning. An effective teacher relates all learning to the real world and by doing so makes learning concrete and meaningful to students. Through collaboration between parents and teachers, a learning curriculum for growth can be developed. In addition to working with parents, teachers need to observe students, talk to them, and interact with them in the classroom to really know them. When a teacher knows the learner, he or she will be able to engage them so they will be excited to learn. Teachers must individualize goals for each learner, with the goal being growth over time.
Teachers need to learn from each other. Therefore, teachers should have plenty of planning time to create new lessons. Teachers need to accept constructive criticism when given, and they should develop a network of peers to accept and give criticism. Thus, the sharing of ideas can give a teacher a new perspective on an old idea. The learner should take an active role in their own education. Learners who are involved with a lesson learn more and retain the information better. Some of the best lessons I have learned have come from hands-on experiences. New technology is transforming education, and technology needs to be more integrated into school systems to help not only advanced learners but also those struggling with learning, which is ongoing and happens everywhere, every day, throughout life.
Accountability for learner achievement is a major focus for teachers and school districts. As a result, school districts continuously employ research-based strategies to improve school-wide academic achievement via instructional practices within the classroom. Many school districts consider themselves data-driven, and extensive training and online databases will assist teachers, school leaders, and district personnel in analyzing trends and targeting gaps in achievement. We need to take hold of each of these moments when the learning includes everyone such as young people, adults, and elders, so they will be able to continue to discover and enjoy learning throughout their lives. We are responsible and accountable for giving our learners’ work our respect and critical evaluation, for holding students to the highest ethical standards, and for providing effective feedback that encourages our learners to grow, because adults are the hope for our future. Teachers have the power to open learners’ minds to new experiences and different aspects of historical events. The learners have the right to learn about our history and they need to have a fair chance to learn. All students have the capacity and ability to learn in safe environments. This statement of philosophy is reflected in the learning programs that model core values of truth, compassion, fairness, responsibility, and respect.
